BiographyPoodle Lynn was born Flora May Lewing in 1946 in Buna, Texas just west of the Louisiana border. Her father gave her the name "Poodle" and "Lynn" was tagged on by co-workers at one of her day jobs. Poodle was raised in Houston, Texas listening to Country and Cajun Swing as well as gospel music. At age eight, she started playing piano and singing in the churches where her father, Albert Lewing, preached. She got her first guitar when she was twelve and wrote her first song "Come With Me To The Chapel" which is featured on her first CD. After graduating from high school at age 17, Poodle joined her brother Albert, Jr.'s band and began her singing and playing career in earnest. She pursued her singing/songwriting ambitions while working various "day jobs." She has performed all over Texas and Louisiana since 1982 and did some recordings in Nashville. She was also invited to the Louisiana Hayride to perform her songs. She managed to raise three children while pursuing her music career. So in 1985, Poodle Lynn formed the Backstage Band with her teenage children and they began playing all around Texas. Her children, sons T. J. Hamrick Jr., Billy Wimberly Jr., and daughter Melissa Sellers, are also accomplished singer/songwriters. |
